About

This blog is my personal diary, of living and working in the Kent countryside, on a farm that grows fruit and vegetables (using only natural (organic in all but name) methods), and life in “The Garden of England” in general.

The farm is set in beautiful countryside, at the foot of the North Downs, surrounded by apple orchards and rolling hills. We are only ten minutes drive from a major town, but the rhythm of the countryside, and the subtle changes of the seasons can be felt here;  life on a farm is always changing throughout the year. The seasons dictate their own rules – which we follow.

I feel liberated from the food fashions of our time, where we put together  breakfast, lunch or dinner, with produce that can have travelled half way (or all the way) around the world to get to our table.  Our produce travels – usually – considerably less than 50 miles, from harvest to table.  And so i eat more seasonal  foods than i used, and include healthier (vegetables are healthy,  and the variety is enormous) ingredients, with most meals.

As-well as my experiences living in Kent i will share some of the  food i eat, and recipes i come across. I work in London at the weekends, selling our locally grown produce, at a London farmers market, where i meet lots of nice people who really, “know their onions”.  My customers are a constant source of inspiration in the kitchen, and i will share anything good i discover (at least one real ‘classic’ recipe i picked up from the markets), and a few of my own favourites – especially that involve using our produce.
